It all started with our Founder, President, and CEO, Richard B. Schenkel. From his years of experience in dining and hospitality, Richard understood the importance of creating exceptional customer experiences. A lifelong entrepreneur, he saw an opportunity to disrupt an industry that he considered stagnant. He wanted to fill a critical need for customized services, centered on fresh-from-scratch cooking and service excellence. Unidine is the realization of that pioneering vision.

Since our founding, Unidine has experienced consistent year-over-year growth, establishing us as one of the fastest-growing dining management companies in the United States.

2001
Unidine was founded by Richard B. Schenkel, with a focus on fresh food programs and service excellence. With only three team members, the company set out to fill a critical market need for a boutique solution as an alternative to processed foods, standardized service, and a one-size-fits-all approach.
2003
The Unidine Way was born. It defines the way we work, the level of dedication we provide, and what our clients and customers can expect from every team members. The Unidine Way is the embodiment of our culture. It guides the business and keeps us grounded and ready to serve.
2006
We were named to Inc.’s 500/5000 list as one of America’s fastest growing privately-held companies. We’ve continued to make this list in 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2015.
2006
The Boston Business Journal announced our company as one of the region’s fastest-growing privately held companies. And we went on to win this six more times.
2007
The Fresh Food Pledge was developed to outline our commitment to crafting exceptional food with care, from scratch, using only fresh, responsibly-sourced ingredients. Signed by all culinary team members, our pledge is our bedrock and a source of pride and commitment for our clients, customers, and team members.
2011
Our Founder, President, and CEO, Richard B. Schenkel was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He was recognized for the company's demonstration of service excellence, innovation, and consistent success.
2013
In partnership with our client, Trinity Health Senior Living Communities, Unidine was honored at the 2013 Long Term Care & Senior Living LINK Conference as a Spirit of Innovation Award winner for a program we helped launch called “Puree with Purpose.”
2014
Our program OH SO GOOD® was created to make healthy lifestyle choices easy for consumers. OH SO GOOD® leverages the latest research and innovations to address our customers' health and dietary needs.
2015
We were named to Food Management’s Top 50 Contract Management Companies for 2015. And again in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
2016
We became one of 100 people, products, and companies to make the Rodale 100 List for “Positively Impacting the World.”
2018
We continued to strategize new ways to address the changing needs of the senior living industry and expand our dedication to service excellence. In 2018, we rebranded Unidine Senior Living Culinary Group to Unidine Lifestyles. The new organization increased its span nationally, managing nearly half a billion dollars in volume as the best-in-class boutique provider in senior living.
