Foodservice East Features Unidine’s Food Program That Helps Slow Altzheimer’s and Other Dementias

A new approach to senior living foodservice is focused on serving bite-sized, nutritious meals to memory care patients. Fresh BitesSM, the memory care nutrition program, helps prevent weight loss and allows patients to eat independently, without the use of utensils. Moreover, the program incorporates ingredients such as turmeric and broccoli that may help improve cognitive function.

“We heard from our senior living clients that weight loss and the inability to eat independently was often a catalyst for dementia disease progression. So we began working on a solution that would increase nutritional intake and provide a more dignified approach to dining for memory care patients,” explains Richard B. Schenkel, Unidine CEO and founder.
